NFPA 701-2004 Methods 2 Textiles and Films Flame Propagation Tester

This flame propagation tester is designed to evaluate the propagation of flame beyond the area exposed to ignition sources. It is suitable for testing vinyl-coated fabric blackout linings, various fabrics including multilayered fabrics, films, plastic blinds with or without reinforcement or backing, and materials with area density greater than 700g/m².

• Furnace dimensions: length and width (305 ± 5) mm, height (2130 ± 10) mm
• Construction: 1.5mm thick 304 stainless steel with transparent observation window
• Top sample rod: positioned 1190 ± 10mm from bottom furnace edge with 4mm horizontal alignment holes
• Top rod composition: steel rods with diameter (1.5 ± 0.1) mm or (3.0 ± 0.1) mm, length (330 ± 10) mm with sharpened ends
• Bottom sample rod: steel rods with diameter (1.5 ± 0.1) mm, length (255 ± 10) mm with sharpened ends
• Vertical guide wires: soft steel wire pairs positioned 100 ± 5mm from center, 200 ± 5mm apart
• Wire spacing: 25 ± 2mm front to back in chamber
• Guide wire mounting: 6 ± 0.05mm diameter rods
• Upper chamber: glass fiber cloth baffle (1000 ± 10) mm × (125 ± 5) mm with reinforced ends

• Installation: fixed seat with 20-degree tilt
• Heat output: 800-1000 BTU/ft³
• Nozzle position: 100mm from test bottom
• Flowmeter: rotor type with maximum range 150 L/hr or 300 L/hr
• Needle valve: controls flame height adjustment
• Pressure gauge: 0-1MPa range with 0.5 accuracy
• Flame measurement: precision scale with 1mm accuracy

• Ignition: high voltage automatic ignition
• Combustion timer: 0-99.99s programmable, 0.01s resolution, 0.1s accuracy
• Continued combustion timer: 0-99.99s programmable, 0.01s resolution, 0.1s accuracy
• Automation: integrated control of ignition, combustion timing, and continued combustion duration
